When it was reported Monday that Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin would have to undergo surgery on an injured knee, it threw a lot of people for a loop. Though, it was then reported that he'd only miss a short time and would likely return some time in January.
Following the surgery, that may no longer be the case. Griffin's estimated timetable for return is four-to-six weeks, meaning he could very well be out until February.
This most definitely throws a wrench into the Clippers' hopes of remaining somewhat viable in the Pacific Division. But it's also a major blow into many in the fantasy basketball community.
With Griffin out, the expectation has to be that Brandon Bass and Marreese Speights willl see an uptick in minutes. Though, Paul Pierce is being listed the team's starter for Tuesday's affair with the Denver Nuggets.
If we had to choose between the three, Speights seems to provide the highest upside from a DFS perspective. His ability to get hot and knock down the outside shot is something we've marveled over in the past. With additional minutes, that could translate over to the fake basketball world.
Though, as we mentioned in the initial article on Monday, the biggest fantasy impact here has to be to Chris Paul, who will now pick up the slack in terms of scoring with Griffin out. Look for him to extend his fantasy dominance to yet another level until his fellow All-Star returns.
