Already one of the most talent-stricken teams in the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks will miss starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews for the next two games with a hip injury. Matthews will sit out Wednesday's game against the New York Knicks and Thursday's matchup with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This comes as somewhat of a surprise. Matthews was pretty much slated to go Wednesday night before the Mavericks made the late decision to scratch him. It's probably the smart move considering Matthews' injury history and Dallas' inability to contend as the season has drawn on.
The 30-year-old win is averaging 15 points while shooting at just 39 percent from the field on the season. Look for Seth Curry to play a larger role with Matthews out of action.
