After fracturing a bone in his right foot in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this month, Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will miss the remainder of the season.
The two-time All-Star underwent successful surgery to repair the break over the weekend and is expected to be ready for the 2016-17 season:
This is some bad news for a Grizzlies team that still finds itself as a top-five seed in the Western Conference.
Add in the trades of Courtney Lee and Jeff Green over the past week, and the core of this squad seems to be depleted.
From a fantasy perspective, Gasol was one of the top DFS centers in basketball at the time of the injury. And while Memphis did acquire veteran big Chris Anderson in the Lee deal, he's only averaging 2.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in two games with the team.
Instead, the onus is likely going to fall on an under-performing Zach Randolph to get the job done from a fantasy perspective. Despite struggles earlier this year, Randolph has picked it up recently. He's averaging 18.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in the past seven games. Randolph is definitely someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
