After each month of the NBA season we will compile our NBA All-Fantasy teams comprised of the top fantasy performers at each position along with a few honorable mentions that might break into the starting lineup next month.
For this month’s Eastern Conference All Fantasy Team we welcome some new faces to the ranks of fantasy supremacy. In fact the lone holdover from last month’s squad is LeBron James as Dwyane Wade, Monta Ellis, Paul Pierce and Greg Monroe are making their debuts.
If you are surprised by some members of the starting five for the All Fantasy squad then you will be shocked to see newcomer Jeff Teague from the Atlanta Hawks who earned an honourable mention for the month. Now with these new players making the cut some familiar names were relegated to the sidelines. Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah were two of the casualties while Kyrie Irving and Jrue Holiday couldn’t hold onto their spots either.
The player rankings used are from eDraft.com and reflect total fantasy points accumulated by the player during the month of February.
Here is the February edition of the NBA All-Fantasy Team for the Eastern Conference.
Dwyane Wade - Guard, Miami Heat
Dwyane Wade was the highest fantasy point getter among all guards in the league for the month of February. This isn’t too surprising given the Miami Heat’s unbelievable month of February. Wade has benefitted greatly from LeBron James’ ridiculous play of late as his assist totals were consistently higher throughout the month. Wade’s stat line for the month was 23.9 ppg, 5.5 apg, 6.2 rpg, 1.3 blks and 2.5 stls per game. In addition to the raised averages; Wade continues to shoot the ball at a clip of .532 from the field. We all know that the guard play in the Eastern Conference is notoriously weaker than that in the West; however, given the current streak the Heat are on, I would stay with Dwyane Wade over the rest of the field.
Monta Ellis - Guard, Milwaukee Bucks
The month of February did not get off to a very good start for Monta Ellis as the first five games saw him break 20 points just once and he failed to reach double digit scoring in another. After that slow start though Ellis has really turned it on and is racking up fantastic fantasy points due to his improved rebounding and assist numbers. Overall Ellis is the eight ranked fantasy guard for the month; however, he is the second highest ranked Eastern Conference guard. I like Ellis as a fantasy option, I just don’t like him ahead of a James Harden or Stephen Curry. Reason being is that the scoring for Ellis usually remains fairly constent and the fluctuations in fantasy value are due to his willingness to pass the ball rather than shoot it and is then incumbent on his teammates knocking those shots down. If I’m drafting pure scorers on my fantasy squad I’d rather them just worry about scoring rather than being a playmaker for others.
LeBron James – Miami Heat
Making his fourth straight appearance on the All Fantasy squad, LeBron James has just been unworldly for the month of February. His play of late has catapulted his name to the top of the list for league MVP. LeBron’s stat line for the month was 29.7 ppg, 7.8 apg, 7.5 rpg and 1.8 steals per game all while shooting .641 from the field and .430 from beyond the arc. Quite simply the month of February for Lebron was as good a month of basketball that any player has experienced since His Airness Michael Jordan laced up his sneakers back in his Chicago Bull hey-days.
Paul Pierce – Boston Celtics
Pierce fought through nagging injuries all month and managed to have himself a fantastic month of fantasy basketball. The highlight of the month for Pierce was a 27 point, 14 rebound, 14 assist outing against the Denver Nuggets. In addition to the triple-double, Pierce’s stat line for the month of 17.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg and 6.8 apg was solid. In the absence of Rajon Rondo, Pierce’s assist totals have been considerably higher as the ball movement and flow in the Celtics offense has returned. If Pierce can continue to ward off the serious injuries and continue to play through the minor ones with this calibre of play then look for Pierce to continue his fantasy success.
Greg Monroe – Detroit Pistons
If February is to be any indicator then Greg Monroe has figured out how to be the consistent player the Detroit Pistons have been searching for. For the first time all season Monroe was able to maintain a double-double average for the entire month. His averages for February were 16.6 ppg, 11 rpg, 3.4 apg 1.2 blk and 1.6 stls per game. In fourteen games Monroe scored in double figures in all but two and didn’t miss any games due to injury. Despite the Detroit Pistons woeful season, Monroe remains a very solid fantasy play at the center position.
Honorable Mentions:
Jeff Teague – Atlanta Hawks
Wow! Jeff Teague had himself one heck of a month of February. This past month was Teague’s best of the season by far and in playing so well he earned his first appearance on our All Fantasy Team. Check out this line for the month 18.3 ppg, 9.3 apg, 1.7 rpg and 1.4 stls per game to compliment a .496 field goal percentage. Seven out of the Hawks eleven games during the month saw Teague score more than 20 points and four of the games saw double digit assist totals. Watch for the excellent fantasy production to remain as Teague helps Atlanta in their battle for the playoffs.
Paul George - Indiana Pacers
George saw his fantasy production take a slight hit this past month as his monthly averages declined a bit. As a result of this George went from the starting lineup down to an honourable mention for the month. Fantasy GMs shouldn’t fret though as George should look to re-assert himself in hopes of showing the Indiana Pacers that he is capable of being the man in Indiana ahead of Danny Granger
Al Horford – Atlanta Hawks
Horford also had his best month of the season in February as his scoring and rebounding averages were both season highs. The best game of the month for Horford was the February 25 game in Detroit where he put up 23 points and grabbed 22 rebounds all the while going up against Greg Monroe. Horford’s play of late has solidified his status as a fantasy must own and there is no reason to think that his production should slow as the season comes to a close.
