Point = 1pt, Rebound = 1.2pts, Assist = 1.5pts, Block = 2pts, Steal = 2pts, Turnover = -1pt
Alright let’s get right into it. To submit a valid roster for competition one must add nine players by using a salary cap of $60,000.
STUDS:
Anthony Davis $10,100
Yes, Davis is the most expensive player going into opening night and yes he is worth every penny. New Orleans and Davis open the season by hosting the Orlando Magic and Davis will simply man-handle the much weaker Magic frontcourt here. Make this pick and sacrifice elsewhere as Davis will make up any roster shortcomings.
Jeremy Lin $5,500
Not only does Lin have the starting point guard duties on opening night for the Lakers, but he gets to welcome the Houston Rockets into Los Angeles. As if the man needed any extra motivation to prove himself, here it is. Solid value here for Lin as many starting guards are considerably more expensive.
Kobe Bryant $9,000
Without a doubt Kobe Bryant has been looking forward to this date since he went down with injury last season. Bryant has looked like his lethal self in the preseason as he posted three back-to-back 25-plus point games. Home crowd on opening night will go absolutely ballistic when number 24 takes the court and you know Bryant will not want to disappoint the Laker faithful.
DUDS:
Dwight Howard $9,500
Howard has played in only two preseason Houston Rockets games and the big man continues to battle through minor injuries as the regular season approaches. I don’t like Howard here as he has no rhythm heading into the season and one can expect the Los Angeles Laker crowd to be merciless in booing Howard at every turn. Bottom line, Howard is just too fragile physically and mentally in this contest to be a good play.
Jrue Holiday $6,500
Holiday is still rehabbing his injury from last season and he has seen limited minutes in the New Orleans preseason games. I don’t expect Holiday to get a lot of run against Orlando on opening night as Monty Williams will want to be cautious here. I too will take a cautious approach to Holiday and wait to see how his health improves as the season progresses.
Julius Randle $5,500
I’m not impressed by this rookie thus far. First off he is in a backup role to Carlos Boozer and he has really failed to impress against other teams starters. Not only does Randle look a bit lost out there at times but even if he sees any game action on opening night he will be in a very tough matchup against a polished Houston Rocket frontcourt.
