NBA March's All-Fantasy Team - Eastern Conference

After each month of the NBA season we will compile our NBA All-Fantasy teams comprised of the top fantasy performers at each position along with a few honorable mentions that might break into the starting lineup next month.

We will start first in the Eastern Conference where I’ll give you a starting five as well as a couple honourable mention spots that came close but ultimately fell just short of cracking the starting lineup. All rankings are based on eDraft’s fantasy stats and are based on a cumulative total for the month which is not necessarily indicative of individual fantasy point per game averages.

Lets recap the All-Fantasy Team from February first. We saw John Wall and Kyrie Irving as top backcourt performers and they were joined by Josh Smith, Carmelo Anthony and Joakim Noah. Honourable mentions for the month were a pairing from Toronto as DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry both had a stellar month of February.

Alright let’s take a look at who were the best of the best during the month of March. As the season winds down the top-performers are typically the league’s best players; however, every now and then some lesser knowns string together a solid month of play to crack the roster.

John Wall Guard - Washington Wizards

Not much of a surprise here as Wall makes yet another appearance on the All-Fantasy Team. He strung together another solid month in February that saw him average 19.5 ppg, 9.0 apg, 3.4 rpg and 1.6 steals per game. These numbers are pretty much on par with his season averages which really just speaks to how great a season he is having in general. Staying healthy is obviously a huge part of Wall’s success and consistency. He has managed to play in and start every game for the Wizards so far this season. Look for Wall to be atop the list for fantasy guards out of the East come season end.

Kyle Lowry Guard - Toronto Raptors

Statistically speaking Lowry had his worst month of 2014 in March; however, the slight decline in performance wasn’t enough to displace him from our All-Fantasy Team. He still put up a slash line of 19.3 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 7.1 apg and 1.6 steals per game. During this stretch he had four games with double-digit assist totals and he registered his second triple-double of the season against Minnesota. Unfortunately Lowry is a bit banged up at the moment and that will likely cost him a repeat spot on the team for next month.

LeBron James Forward - Miami Heat

After a brief hiatus from the All-Fantasy teams, LeBron reasserted himself in March and re-established his presence. James had a solid month of March even by his unearthly standards. His usual averages were augmented by a 61 point performance against Charlotte and a triple-double performance against Detroit. James has a penchant for stepping on the gas come season end and March was certainly no exception.

Carmelo Anthony Forward - New York Knicks

Anthony makes yet another appearance here and despite his repeated stellar individual performances the Knicks are still on the playoff bubble. March was a standard month for Anthony as he posted a slash line of 27.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 3.5 apg. It’s tough to make a case for Anthony as being an elite fantasy performer despite the numbers as his turnover ratio is horrific and some nights the field goal percentage is miniscule.

Al Jefferson Center - Charlotte Bobcats

Big Al quietly went about his business once again in March as he posted 24.7 ppg and 10.6 rpg numbers to go along with nine double-doubles during the month. One of the league’s most consistent fantasy options this season, Jefferson has been an unsung hero of many a fantasy roster. His play should have garnered him an All-Star nomination and in lieu of that snub he should be named to an All-NBA Team at season’s end.

Honorable Mentions

Kemba Walker Guard - Charlotte Bobcats

Similar to last month we see a pair of teammates crack the top seven here as Jefferson and Walker from Charlotte made the cut. On paper Walker didn’t appear to have a stellar month as he had three games where he was held to single-digit scoring. He did overcome that though and still managed to put up 16.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 7.5 apg throughout the month. This third year point guard is a definite budding star as his stock is rising quickly among the NBA elite floor generals.

Paul George Guard - Indiana Pacers

George had a kind of quiet month of March by his standards. The Pacers fell into a bit of a end-of-season slide that saw them lose six of their last eight games in the month and the slump was felt by all as George’s numbers took a hit too. His 18.7 ppg average was about three points lower than his season average; however, he did contribute nicely with the 7.5 rpg and 3.6 apg stats. George also managed to register a triple-double during the month in a well-rounded performance against the Chicago Bulls.
