The first day of NBA free agency is always about big signings and hundreds of millions of dollars being spread out across the NBA. But on Friday, the NBA dropped a bomb, with the announcement that free agent guard O.J. Mayo has been suspended for the next two seasons for violating the NBA-NBA Players Association's Anti-Drug Program.
Mayo became a free agent this offseason after his three-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks expired. The market for him was expected to be slow as he recovered from a broken ankle. Mayo averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game last season in 41 games.
While it's not known what Mayo is specifically suspended for, Mayo's two-year suspension is locked in. The 28-year-old is banned from the NBA for two seasons, but he can play overseas.
