NBA Week 1 Power Rankings

The NBA season has finally started. With every team having played at least one game, we got a clearer picture on rotations and how teams will look this coming season. With week one underway it’s time for some weekly power rankings

1. Indiana Pacers

After two solid wins against young, up and coming teams the Pacers find themselves at the top of the power rankings. Roy Hibbert is leading the team with twelve blocks in only two games.

2. Golden State Warriors

The Warriors started off the season with a dominating win over the Lakers. Klay Thompson set a new career high in points with 38 in the Warriors opening win.

3. San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs had an impressive win over a very solid Memphis Grizzlies team. The Spurs had great contributions from multiple players and looks like they are ready to compete in the West once more.

4. Houston Rockets

The Rockets had a great win against, even if it was against the lowly Bobcats. The Rockets looked impressive even with an injured James Harden.

5. Miami Heat

After a very impressive win against the Bulls, the Heat surprisingly lost to a very bad 76ers team. Despite an early lost to one of the worse teams in the league the Heat are still one of the top teams in the East.

6. Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder managed to win their first regular season game without Russell Westbrook. Kevin Durant had to carry his team to victory against the Jazz. I expect he’ll have to do that a lot until Westbrook returns.

7. Detroit Pistons

The Pistons looked impressive in their first game of the season. They defeated a good Wizards team that will be looking to compete with them for a playoff seed.

8. New York Knicks

The Knicks were led to victory by Raymond Felton and Carmelo Anthony in their first game of the season.

9. Los Angeles Clippers

Even though the Clippers lost their first game to the Lakers, they looked very good offensively.

10. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs were the first team to have to face this new Brooklyn Nets team and they held up very well. Tristan Thompson and Kyrie Irving both looked impressive in their season opener.

11. Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves required overtime to beat the Orlando Magic; however, Kevin Love looked extremely impressive.

12. Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks were able to beat the Atlanta Hawks in their season opener. Monta Ellis was very impressive in his debut as a Maverick.

13. Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers opened the season with an impressive win over the Clippers. They were then beaten soundly by a very good Warriors team. The jury is still out on this Kobe-less team.

14. Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets lost in a nail-biter to a talented Sacramento Kings team. Despite the early loss the Nuggets look to be a competitor in the West.

15. Brooklyn Nets

The Nets season debut ended in disappointment as they lost to the Cavaliers. This very talented Nets team will still be a force in the East.

16. Chicago Bulls

The Bulls were smothered by the reigning NBA champions, the Miami Heat. Even with this defeat the Bulls look to have a very successful season.

17. Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies offense continues to look like a major weakness. The Grizzlies had one of the toughest first game matchups in the San Antonio Spurs and should be competitors in the West.

18. Toronto Raptors

The Raptors had a very unimpressive win against an awful Boston Celtics. A win is always good news but if the Raptors hope to make the playoffs you’d like to see a more impressive win.

19. Sacramento Kings

The Kings had a close victory over the Nuggets in their season opener. DeMarcus Cousins looked like an all-star and will need to carry this team.

20.  Utah Jazz

The Jazz played very well against one of the top team in the West. Utah ended up coming up short against the Thunder.

21. Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks lost in their first game without Josh Smith. On the bright-side, Jeff Teague played very well.

22. New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans looked impressive in a tough loss to the Pacers. Eric Gordon, Anthony Davis, and Jrue Holiday all played very well.

23. Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks lost to a good team in the Knicks. The Bucks will need someone to step up if they hope to make the playoffs.

24. Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers are even bad at tanking. They surprised everyone with a victory over the Miami Heat. Unfortunately the 76ers are still a very bad team and shouldn’t get used to victories like these.

25. Orlando Magic

The Magic lost two close games to two very solid teams. While the Magic shouldn’t expect to win many games, they might surprise a few people.

26. Washington Wizards

The Wizards looked pretty impressive in a loss to a good Pistons team. Most importantly, John Wall looked very good in the season opener.

27. Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers have plenty of talent but were extremely disappointing in a loss to the Phoenix Suns. The Blazers look to have a bright future and should turn things around.

28. Phoenix Suns

The Suns victory over the Blazers was more a reflection on the Blazers inconsistence than the talent of the Suns. Both Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe looked impressive in the season opener.

29. Charlotte Bobcats

Even with the addition of Al Jefferson the Bobcats are not a very good team. The Rockets are a very good team and there’s no shame in losing to them.

30. Boston Celtics

Tank for Wiggins is in full effect in Boston. Boston has some talent and should improve with the return of Rondo.
