Once again the national media’s attention was on the NBA, but not for the playoffs. Today, Adam Silver announced a lifetime ban for Clippers owner Donald Sterling. The news sent ripples through all forms of media and rightfully so. Nonetheless, there was still some incredible basketball tonight, including one team moving on to the next rounds.
Washington Wizards vs Chicago Bulls
The Wizards have finished another chapter in an already incredible season as they managed to beat the Bulls by a score of 75-69. This victory won the Wizards the series in five games. This game was the perfect representation of the Bulls struggles this season as they were unable to generate any offense. The Bulls were led by Joakim Noah who scored only six points but added 18 rebounds and seven assists. The Wizards were led by a trio of players, most notably the recently returned Nene. For the Wizards, they advance to face the winner of the Hawks/Pacers series and appear in good shape to compete with either team.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Oklahoma City Thunder
After a great season and high hopes for the playoffs, the Thunder are now one game away from being eliminated. The Thunder came up short in overtime against the Grizzlies by a score of 100-99. The Thunder were led by their two stars, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook who scored a combined 56 points. However, they also shot a combined 20-55 from the field, something they will have to improve upon if they hope to advance. The Grizzlies were led by Mike Miller who had 21 points off the bench and Zach Randolph who recorded a double-double. The Grizzlies have now taken a 3-2 lead in the series and seem to have momentum in their favor.
Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Clippers
This game was headline news, but not for the game itself. All focus was on the Clippers and how they would react to the Donald Sterling ban. The Clippers responded strongly and despite foul trouble for both teams the Clippers managed to come out on top. The Clippers now lead the series following the 113-103 victory. The Clippers were led by DeAndre Jordan who scored 25 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. The Warriors were led by Andre Iguodala who scored 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. The Warriors will head home to face elimination on Thursday.
