The Oklahoma City Thunder have now played 42 games. In nearly half those outings, MVP candidate Russell Westbrook has put up a triple-double. This comes after Russ 36 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a 122-118 win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday.
More than halfway through the season, and Westbrook is still averaging a triple-double at 30.8 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game. Those are numbers we have not seen put up since Oscar Robertson was in his prime.
From a fantasy perspective, Westbrook is absolutely running away from the rest of the field. He's put up 114 more points than the second-best fantasy guard, James Harden of the Houston Rockets. Yes folks, that's nearly three whole fantasy points per game. And Harden himself is having a dynamite fantasy season as well.
What makes this so astonishing is the fact Westbrook is doing this within the confines of Billy Donovan's system. At 25-17 on the season, Oklahoma is currently in playoff positioning out west. This simply isn't a product of Westbrook looking to fill up the stat board.
