As expected, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is not with the team as they travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks on Wednesday. Philadelphia had previously listed Embiid as doubtful for both Wednesday and Thursdy with a knee contusion. He has not suited up for the Sixers since dominating the Houston rockets to the tune of 32 points in 28 minutes on Friday night.
Philadelphia has continued to take it slow with Embiid after he missed his first two NBA seasons to injury. Even with the team in the midst of a playoff race back east, it makes no sense to risk long-term injury to the Rookie of the Year candidate. Embiid is averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds on the season.
With Embiid likely out Wednesday, both Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel will see more action. Though, Philly has switched between the two as starters with Embiid sidelined recently. We'll update that angle of the story when it becomes available and Embiid is officially ruled out by the team.
