Out since late July with what has been called a minor meniscus tear in his knee, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was expected to sit until the beginning of March.
That timeline has now been thrown out the window after the Sixers themselves announced Monday that Embiid will be out indiefinitely due to swelling in the same knee. He's set to undergo an MRI, at which point we will have a better understanding of the length of Embiid's absence.
Needless to say, it now seems to be a longer-term injury..
After missing his first two NBA seasons due to injury, Embiid is averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 boards in 25.4 minutes of action per game this season.
With Embiid now sidelined indefinitely and Nerlens Noel in Dallas, an unlikely player becomes somewhat fantasy relevant. Long been considered on his way out in Philadelphia, Jahlil Okafor should now see a dramatic uptick in minutes.
The second-year players from Duke is averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this season. He's also coming off a 28-point, 10-rebound performance against the Knicks on Saturday.
Philadelphia plays host to the Golden State Warriors on Monday night. Okafor is a decent under-the-radar DFS play here.
