The Golden State Warriors have officially ruled reigning MVP Stephen Curry out for Monday's Game 2 playoff matchup against the Houston Rockets.
It's not necessarily too much of a surprise after Curry rolled his ankle in the opening game Saturday in Oakland.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had pretty much indicated that the team would error on the side of caution in this one.
Based on Golden State's domination over Houston during the past two years and its road win against the Rockets with Curry out of action earlier this season, this shouldn't be too alarming for fans in Oakland.
The idea here is that Curry's overall importance to the Warriors long-term trumps what might happen in an early-round game against an inferior opponent. After all, Golden State isn't repeating as champs with the MVP sidelined for an extended period of time.
With Curry out of action, backup point guard Shaun Livingston will get the start. Though, the Warriors will also run the offense through both Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green in this Game 2 outing.
Golden State leads the series 1-0.
