Golden State Warriors guards Klay Thompson almost received a night off Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies after falling ill. In the end, he suited up scoring 17 points on just 7-of-17 shooting.
With the illness seemingly behind him, Thompson will now be given a veteran night off Tuesday against the Miami Heat. It's the rest that head coach Steve Kerr had hoped to give him a few days earlier.
There are wide-ranging fantasy ramifications here.
Believe it or not, Thompson is tied with Stephen Curry with the most shots on the Warriors' roster, ahead of even Kevin Durant. Naturally, those shots will have to be divided up among the Warriors' other stars as they take on a defensive-minded Heat team at home on Tuesday
Rookie Patrick McCaw is expected to get the start in Thompson's stead. And in reality, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him put up 10-plus shots while going for 30-plus minutes here McCaw has been in and out of the Warriors' rotation all season, but continues to prove himself worthy of minutes.
McCaw may be averaging just 2.6 points per game, but he's putting up 10.8 attempts per 100 possessions. The rookie is also shooting at a solid 37 percent clip from distance. With that said, he's not a reliable DFS play.
Instead, the expectation here is that Ian Clark will take on more of a scoring role when he's on the field. Pretty much a journeyman throughout his career, Clark has found a role with the Warriors over the past couple years. This season alone, Clark is averaging 7.0 points in 13.9 minutes of action while shooting at a 51 percent clip from the field, including a 41 percent mark from distance.
Though, expect Curry to be the player impacted the most here. He should make minced meat out of Goran Dragic, who continues to struggle guarding score-first ones.
