Colt McCoy Suffers Neck Injury
Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy left Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams with a neck injury. McCoy told reporters on Monday it was still sore. Head coach Jay Gruden said McCoy strained his neck and won’t make a quarterback decision until all tests come back regarding McCoy’s neck. He did say, however, that if McCoy is unable to go this week, Robert Griffin III will get the start.
49ers Lose to Raiders, Spiraling Out of Control
On Thanksgiving night the 49ers suffered what many thought would be their most embarrassing loss of the season, losing 19-3 at home to their division rival the Seattle Seahawks. Well, this past Sunday changed that. In the Battle of the Bay, they lost to the 1-11 Oakland Raiders and effectively ended their season thus basically ending head coach Jim Harbaugh’s tenure in San Francisco. This offense had another terrible game led by Colin Kaepernick. But all the blame can’t be put on him, it must be put on the coaching staff as well. Week after week it seems this offense can’t get worse, and then they are. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how they perform when they have to go into Seattle this week and play a red hot Seahawks team.
Zach Mettenberger Will Miss Rest of Season
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger left Sunday’s game against the New York Giants early with a shoulder injury. It turned out to be a separated AC joint and he will now miss the remaining three games of the season for the Titans. The worst part of this injury for the Titans is that they will now have three less games to evaluate Mettenberger and make the decision if the sixth round draft pick will be their quarterback moving forward into next season. If Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota are available when they Titans pick in the 2015 draft, my guess is they’ll be more than willing to move on from Mettenberger.
Tight End Jordan Cameron Admits Browns’ Offense “Sucks”
The Cleveland Browns are right in the middle of a playoff race with only three games remaining in the regular season. With so much at stake, they suffered a crushing 25-24 defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts. In a game where their defense had four takeaways and scored 14 points on their own, the Browns offense could only muster ten points. When asked about the game, Browns tight end Jordan Cameron said, “We gotta watch the tape, but we suck.” Could head coach Mike Pettine insert Johnny Manziel as the starter to give this offense the spark they need to make their final playoff push?
Saints Lose Fourth Straight at Home, Still In Contention for NFC South
Under head coach Sean Payton, the Saints hadn’t lost consecutive home games in more than two years. This season they’ve now lost four home games in a row. This last loss to the Carolina Panthers was an embarrassing one, losing 41-10. With that being said, the Saints are still tied for first in the NFC South sitting at 5-8.
Washington Defensive Coordinator Gets Ripped by Former Player
This season has been another season of dysfunction for the Washington Redskins and longtime Redskins linebacker London Fletcher added to that on Sunday. On CBS Sports Network on Sunday, Fletcher had this to say about defensive coordinator Jim Haslett: “Why does Jim Haslett still have a job as a defensive coordinator after five years now of just ineptitude at the defensive coordinator position? He's clueless as a defensive coordinator. He lacks attention to detail.
He lacks feel on how to call a game. Some of the calls he used to call when I was playing were head-scratching. They were so bad, I used to change them, like, 'We're not running that.' And we'd get off the field and he would ask, 'Why did you change the call.' (I would say), 'Because that's just a dumb call. That's why I changed it.' He is a guy that does not know what he is doing. And the Washington Redskins – and (coach) Jay Gruden in particular – better watch his back and get Jim Haslett out the door… Jay Gruden better get him out the door because he's probably back-stabbing Jay Gruden like he did everybody else – like he did to Scott Linehan in St. Louis and like he did to Mike Shanahan in Washington… This is a guy that would take the ’85 Bears and turn them into a mediocre defense. He is clueless. He has no idea what he is doing. Believe me, I had a front row seat for four years." These are very strong statements from long time Redskin London Fletcher.
Andre Ellington Out for Season
Well, the Arizona Cardinals have incurred yet another injury to an important starter. This time it is starting running back Andre Ellington with a sports hernia. Ellington has been battling other injuries all season and hasn’t been as productive as the Cardinals may have hoped, but he was certainly a threat in the backfield that defenses had to worry about. This season he gained 660 yards on the ground with three touchdowns as well as catching 46 balls for 395 yards and two touchdowns. Stepfan Taylor will now take over as the starter at running back.
Jerick McKinnon Put on IR
Another promising young running back has been placed on season ending Injured Reserve. This one is Minnesota Vikings rookie Jerick Mckinnon. McKinnon has had a nagging lower back injury. McKinnon was averaging over four yards per carry and led the team in carries and rushing yards. He will have a procedure done with a recovery time of eight weeks.
Brandon Marshall’s Season is Over
Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys, Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall suffered broken ribs and a lung injury. Marshall was released from the hospital but is officially done for the season. To replace Marshall on the roster, the Bears have promoted Josh Bellamy from the practice squad.
Antonio Cromartie Injury Not as Severe As Feared
During the Arizona Cardinal’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday cornerback Antonio Cromartie left the game with what they thought was an Achilles tendon injury. In the press conference after the game, head coach Bruce Arians said he didn’t think it was an injury to the Achilles. In a phone interview on Monday general managaer Steve Keim confirmed that and said it was actually an injury to the perineal tendon on his left ankle and the team views him as day-to-day pending further evaluations from doctors. Since the Cardinals have a very short week with a Thursday night game against the St. Louis Rams coming up, there’s a good chance Cromartie won’t be able to play in that game anyway. However, with all the injuries they’ve had this season they’ll be thankful to only miss Cromartie for one week.
