Browns Moving Forward With Johnny Manziel at Quarterback
Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine has announced that the team will move forward with rookie Johnny Manziel as their starting quarterback instead of Brian Hoyer. This decision comes as a surprise to some people because in his professional debut Manziel had possibly the worst game in his career. Although Manziel looked pretty bad in his first start, this offense looked terrible even with Hoyer as their quarterback, that’s why Pettine made the switch to Manziel in the first place. Another factor in sticking with Manziel is that Pettine made the switch just one week ago. You need more than one game to really know what you have in a quarterback.
Ryan Fitzpatrick Out for Season With Broken Leg
The Houston Texans have recently had some bad luck at the quarterback position. It started when Ryan Mallett was put on Injured Reserve due to a torn pectoral muscle and got even worse this past Sunday when Ryan Fitzpatrick broke his leg. That’s not all though. Rookie Tom Savage came in for Fitzpatrick and finished the game but hurt his knee and won’t be available for Week 16. The Texans will now have to either start Thad Lewis or Case Keenum. Neither are ideal situations for Houston but they’ll certainly try to make the best of it.
DeMarco Murray Broke Left Hand, Not Ruled Out Yet
Dallas Cowboys running back Demarco Murray broke a bone in his left hand in their win Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. He will undergo surgery for it this week but likely won’t miss any time because of it. Even though Murray is likely to play on Sunday, there’s also a good chance he doesn’t get anywhere near the same workload he’s grown accustomed to this season. Look for the Cowboys to use Murray more as a decoy on Sunday.
Robert Griffin III Scheduled To Start Against Eagles
Washington Redskins starting quarterback Colt McCoy reinjured his neck on Sunday in their game against the New York Giants. McCoy likely won’t even dress for their game against the Eagles this Saturday. Robert Griffin III had a solid performance in relief and will get the start in place of McCoy. The Giants were able to sack Griffin seven times on Sunday and the Eagles pass rush is significantly better than the Giants. So I hope Kirk Cousins is ready to go on the sidelines because that Eagles pass rush is going to get after Griffin on Saturday.
Danny Trevathan To Miss Rest of Season
The Denver Broncos will be without linebacker Danny Trevathan for the rest of the season as he dislocated his pettelar tendon that will require surgery. Due to this injury and a completely separate injury that caused him to miss time, Trevathan has only played in three games this season and made a total of 11 tackles.
Ryan Lindley Getting Start Over Rookie Logan Thomas
The Arizona Cardinals are down another quarterback. Head coach Bruce Arians has announced that Ryan Lindley will get the start in place of injured Drew Stanton. The Cardinals will be facing a Seattle Seahawks team that seems to have hit their stride at just the right time, especially on the defensive side of the ball. This will be quite the test for Lindley on Sunday.
Nick Foles Still Not Cleared, Mark Sanchez to Start
In Philadelphia the Eagles were on the brink of yet another quarterback controversy. The Eagles dodged that bullet for at least another week because previous starting quarteback Nick Foles didn’t get medical clearance from a doctor to being game preparation this week. This means that Mark Sanchez will get at least another week to lead this team.
NFL Admits Wrong “Roughing The Passer” Penalty
The 49ers were down by a field goal in the third quarter on Sunday in a game against the Seattle Seahawks. They made a pivotal stop on third down that was going to likely force a field goal and keep them within six points of the Seahawks. However, the refs decided to call a Roughing the Passer penalty on backup linebacker Nick Moody. Everyone on the broadcast and watching at home knew it was a terrible call that completely changed the outlook of the game. The Seahawks scored a touchdown just two players later making it a ten point game rather than a six point game. The NFL’s head of officiating has even come out now and admitted that the ref on Sunday got the call wrong. This admission won’t give the 49ers another chance at beating the Seahawks and keeping their playoff hopes alive. Instead they’ll just have to swallow their medicine and move onto San Diego.
Jake Locker Gets Placed on IR
Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker has seemed to be extremely fragile for his whole short professional career. On Sunday he solidified that reputation after leaving the game early due to a shoulder dislocation. On Monday the Titans put Locker on IR and most likely ending his career as a Titan. Locker is set to be a free agent after this season and the Titans aren’t likely to bring him back in 2015.
Gerald McCoy Out for Season
When Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy left Sunday’s game with a knee injury his status was up in the air. After Monday his status will no longer be a question as he was placed on Injured Reserve with a right knee injury. McCoy will miss the rest of the season.
