It was not a very good week for many star running backs in the NFL. Many fantasy owners are disappointed with their first or second round picks performance but remember this is only Week 1. Plenty of time for any player have a break out season. Here are my top worst fantasy performances for Week 1
10. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers: 125 yards, 1 Pass TD, 38 rush yards, 13 points vs SEA
Yes he was up against the number one ranked defense from the 2012 season so we didn't expect much but he is Cam Newton after all. He had a pretty disappointing 2012 season so fantasy owners are praying for a bounce back season. Hopefully he can put up better numbers next week at Buffalo.
9. Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 210 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 9 points at NYJ
We have no idea what Freeman would produce this year for the Buccaneers. He is one of those sleeper quarterbacks that could have an outstanding year. We expected him to have big numbers with a great offense up against a weak Jets defense but that wasn't the case. Next weeks matchup is not as promising vs the Saints and Freeman's stock keeps on falling.
8. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars: 15 ATT, 45 yards, 0 TD, 4 points vs KC
After a horrible season ridden with injury for Jones-Drew we are wishing for a great season of double diget points per week this year. The Chiefs defense contained every aspect of offensive production by the Jaguars which made them pass happy which hurt Jones-Drew's touches. He playes next at Oakland.
7. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks: 17 ATT, 43 yards, 0 TD, 4 points at CAR
Lynch had huge fantasy numbers last season and it seemed like it would continue against a weak Panthers defense. He just couldn't break off the big run and was contained under 50 yards for the day. He will have a much tougher matchup next week vs the 49ers so be mindful for better matchups.
6. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers: 191 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 6 points vs TEN
Roethlisberger had no help in this game to perform to his standard. His starting center Pouncey was injured early in the game which hurt his protection and the run offense didn't even show up to the game. Big Ben doesn't seem to be able to take the punishment like he used to so be careful when playing him in future weeks. He's next at Cincinnati on Monday night.
5. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions: 4 REC, 37 yards, 0 TD, 3 points vs MIN
Megatron is coming off a record breaking season in 2012 and we all want an encore season from him. A reversed call in the endzone took away his impressive touchdown catch which had taken away about 9-10 fantasy points. Look for him to have a better week next at Arizona.
4. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo Bills: 17 ATT, 41 yards, 0 TD, 3 points vs NE next vs CAR
Spiller had a breakout season last year and New England put a stop to it continuing into opening day. They contained him under 50 yards on 17 attempts which has been hard to do against Spiller. Next week could be a better day for him when the Panthers come to town.
3. David Wilson, New York Giants: 7 ATT, 19 yards, 0 TD, -3 points at DAL
Wilson may have lost all fantasy stock in Week 1! He proved that he still has ball security issues and Tom Coughlin takes his touches away and throws the ball. Already the Giants are looking for new running backs since there is no depth at all with injuries plaguing them. Until they do, Wilson will remain the featured back but hopefully you have other options on your bench. Wilson and the Giants look to have a better run game next week vs the Broncos.
2. Mike Wallace, Miami Dolphins: 1 REC, 15 yards, 0 TD, 1 point at CLE next at IND
With Wallace getting all the attention on the outside, that opens up plays for the other recievers of Miami. One point is better than no points but that will clearly not be satisfying to any fantasy owner. Wallace is always a deep threat and huge playmaker. Hopefully he will be able to break off some big plays next week at Indianapolis.
1. Lamar Miller, Miami Dolphins: 10 ATT, 3 yards, 0 TD, 0 points at CLE
Miller disappointed all fantasy owners who had him starting this week. And lets be honest, most of us had him starting since the running back positon is not deep at all in that category. Miller has been a question mark on his production all preseason long and lets hope this isn't a sign of things to come. He is up against the Colts next week..
