Rounds two and three are now officially behind us. The night was filled with more teams continuing to reach for players, tons of trade action and more surprising picks than I care to count.
So, as we wrap up coverage of Day Two, let’s take a look at who had a great couple of rounds and some teams that didn’t fare so well. Also, don’t forget to check out our grades for every single pick thus far.
Winners
San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers clearly killed day two. They picked up one of my favorite pass-catching tight ends Vance McDonald then seriously bolstered their already scary-good defense by adding Tank Carradine and Corey Lemonier. The rich got incredibly richer today.
Oakland Raiders: The Raiders made up for their questionable pick of D.J. Hayden in day one by selecting offensive tackle Menelik Watson and outside linebacker Sio Moore. Both players seriously bolster their respective units and make this team better as a whole. Great day-two moves by Reggie McKenzie and Company.
Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens continued to fill holes on their defense in day two by adding Arthur Brown and Brandon Williams. These are two ultra-talented players and I had first-round grades for both. The Ravens defense is going to be just as good, or better, than last year if they keep things up.
Green Bay Packers: Once again, I promise I’m not just putting Green Bay on here because I’m a fan. Being able to trade back to the end of round two and get Eddie Lacy with the 61st overall pick is a huge win for the Packers. They finally have a franchise running back to round out their already potent (albeit one-sided) offense. Such a great move by the Packers.
Losers
Chicago Bears: The Bears continued to baffle everyone with their only pick on day two but reaching for inside linebacker Jon Bostic from Florida, when much higher-rated linebackers were still on the board. Don’t get me wrong, Bostic is a great linebacker, just isn’t a value at all where the Bears picked him. They have now taken two players in the top 50 that aren’t ranked anywhere close to there.
Seattle Seahawks: Seattle decided to make some trades and move around on day two, but failed to make an impact on their team at all with the picks that they made. Defensive Tackle Jordan Hill has no real place on the depth chart, and wasn’t even the best defensive tackle available at this spot. The Seahawks also selected running back Christine Michael, who is a great running back, don’t get me wrong. But with Johnathan Franklin still on the board and Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin already on the roster, there’s little room for Michael to make an impact. The Seahawks really needed to look at replacing Leroy Hill here with someone like Khaseem Greene.
