Positives

Blocking: Arthur Lynch was mostly utilized as a blocker in Georgia’s offense.  Lynch is a very strong and physical blocker with a big frame.  With his big frame, he also has quick feet and is balanced as a blocker in the run game.  With that said, being a block-first tight end, he has utilized his ability to make an impact in the running game at Georgia and very well could do so at the next level.

Hard Runner: Lynch did not carry the ball too often with only hauling in 24 catches in his last two seasons, but he is very tough for defenders in the secondary to bring down.  If Lynch can get past the second level, he can use a very good stiff arm to get defenders off of him.  Although not the fastest, Lynch is difficult to bring down for defensive backs due to his size.

Negatives

Not Flashy: Lynch has not produced impressive numbers while at Georgia.  He also is not an “x-factor” for defensives have to plan around for producing big plays.  Although in my opinion I believe that a tight end does not need to produce big numbers to be affective, that also depends on what offensive system he is in.  However, the numbers he has produced and the potential numbers he can produce in the next level will hurt his draft stock.

Athleticism: Lynch is not a great athlete compared to other tight ends in this draft like Jace Amaro, Eric Ebron, and Cj Fiedorowicz.   His speed is average for tight ends and will most likely clock out with a 4.8 in the 40 yard dash.  He also does not have the ability to jump up high and make a big play on a high throw.  He also does not have the ability to make defenders miss in the open field.

NFL Comparison

Matt Spaeth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Coming out of University of Minnesota, Spaeth was not a high producer like Lynch.  Spaeth is also a block first tight end that could help any rushing offense team.  Spaeth may have been a better athlete than Lynch coming out of college, but I believe that Lynch plays the same style as Spaeth and could reach that potential.

Draft Outlook

Lynch enters the 2014 NFL Draft in a weaker tight end class than last years.  This weak draft for tight ends should prohibit him from getting drafted too low.  His ability to be a consistent force in the blocking game should also help his draft stock.  He will likely to be drafted on day three, somewhere in the rounds of four to six.

Best Fits:

Some of the best fits for Arthur Lynch could be the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars whom are both in the bottom half of rushing yards per game.  Lynch would also be able to come in and get reliable time as a run-blocker in these offenses due to question marks at tight end depth for both teams.
