Teddy Bridgewater, by most accounts is the number one quarterback in the country. He has all the traits that you look for in a quarterback. He can make every throw on the field, he has good accuracy, makes good decisions and is mobile. As of right now he should be the first quarterback taken in the 2014 NFL draft. After watching the first week of preseason games, there are five teams which I think would be the best fit for Bridgewater. I don't think all of them will draft high enough to draft him, but these are the teams with questions at quarterback who would be the best fits.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are one of the two teams that actually have the chance to take Bridgewater in the draft. They have some nice pieces, but none of those pieces are at the quarterback position. Blaine Gabbert has been nothing short of horrible and Chad Henne isn't the long-term answer at quarterback there. They have some good young receivers in Cecil Shorts and Justin Blackmon, they still have Maurice Jones-Drew and good young pieces on their offensive line. The Jaguars, while not being very good on defense last year, have some really nice, young guys on defense. On top of the young guys they have on defense, their new head coach, Gus Bradley, should be able to infuse some life into their defense. Quarterback is the one real weakness they have on offense, adding a quarterback like Bridgewater would open up the passing and running games, which would also take pressure off of their defense.
Oakland Raiders
The Raiders are the other team who have a really good chance at Bridgewater. The Raiders just brought in Matt Flynn, have Terrelle Pryor on the roster and just drafted Tyler Wilson in this past draft. However, none of the quarterbacks on this team have proven anything in this league. The Raiders have some talent at the running back position, however it can't stay healthy. When Darren McFadden is healthy, he is one of the top-five backs in this league, but he can't seem to stay on the field.
They do have some young, talented receivers in Denarius Moore and Rod Streater. On the offensive line they have one of the better tackles in the league in Jared Veldheer along with rookie tackle Menelik Watson. On defense they are extremely young and have a lot of new pieces. Rookies DJ Hayden and Sio Moore both should make big impacts on this team. Their defense was bad last year and probably won't change a lot this year. Adding Teddy Bridgewater probably won't make them a playoff team next year, but adding Bridgewater to a young, up and coming offense would help take pressure off of that defense.
Tennessee Titans
The Titans are a team who isn't likely to pick high enough to get Bridgewater. However, if Jake Locker can't get them to the playoffs this year it might be time to move on. The Titans have a very talented, all-around team. Chris Johnson is a really good running back and they have pieced together one of the better offensive lines in the league. They also have one of the better receiver groups in the league with Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Nate Washington and Justin Hunter. Tennessee also has a very talented defense. It is still very young though. Last year it was the worst defense point wise in the league, however it the tenth worst offense in the league. The defense also added Bernard Pollard, who is very good against the run and punishes receivers over the middle. If you add in a quarterback to that offense with Chris Johnson, those receivers and that offensive line, that offense could be one of the best. On top of that if the young players on defense grow, that defense could be good enough for that team to make the playoffs.
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were a playoff team last year, so the odds of them getting a pick high enough to take Bridgewater with is slim. However, so far it looks like Ponder isn't the answer. The Vikings have the best running back in the league in Adrian Peterson, which helps any quarterback. The Vikings signed Greg Jennings in the offseason and also drafted Cordarrelle Patterson. They lost Percy Harvin, but Patterson should be able to take the role of the often-injured Harvin. They also have Kyle Rudolph, one of the better young tight ends in the league. The Vikings had the 14th-ranked defense in points against last year. They lost Antoine Winfield, but also drafted Xavier Rhodes in the first round this past draft. They also drafted Sharrif Floyd in the first round. If they were to add a quarterback like Bridgewater to an offense with Peterson then teams couldn't stack the box. This would be a huge boost to that offense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs might be the best fit for Bridgewater. They have one of the best running backs in the league in Doug Martin to go along with one of the better wide receiver duos in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams. The Buccs also have one of the better offensive lines in the league, especially on the interior with Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph manning the guard positions. Josh Freeman has shown he can be a great quarterback, but he is woefully inconsistent and turns the ball over far too much. If you add Bridgewater to an offense with that much talent, it could potentially be a top five offense. Tampa Bay had the best rush defense in the league as far as yards per game, but they had the worst pass defense in yards per game. The Buccs had the third least sacks in the league last year as well. The Buccs revamped their secondary by adding Darrelle Revis, Dashon Goldson and they drafted Jonathan Banks. They have a young defensive line and linebacker core who should only get better as they get older.
