Despite leading the nation in receptions, yards and touchdowns, Davante Adams may not be a name everyone has heard. He comes from a smaller school in Fresno State and doesn’t often get the primetime games. That being said, the draft community sure knows who he is. The redshirt sophomore has declared for the NFL and will certainly be picked in the first few rounds of the draft. There are a lot of teams out there that could use some receiver help. Who are the top potential teams to take Adams? Read on and I will give you my four most likely landing spots for Davante Adams.
Cleveland Browns:
Josh Gordon has emerged as one of the best receivers in the NFL, but the Browns have no one opposite him to help draw coverage. Greg Little has long disappointed the fans in Cleveland and Davone Bess didn’t live up to expectations when he came to town. The Browns seem to be in the market for a new quarterback and one of the best things that you can give a rookie quarterback is plenty of weapons. Adams looks even likelier to go to the Browns if they select Derek Carr with the fourth overall pick in the draft. Adams can bring a big bodied receiver with reliable hands opposite Gordon to help move the chains and keep that Browns offense on the field.
Oakland Raiders:
Another team that may end up with Derek Carr, the Raiders don’t have a lot of weapons in the passing game. Even if the Raiders don’t get a new quarterback, they have to get some weapons for whoever the starter is going to be next year. While Oakland has a lot of holes on their team, receiver is one of the biggest and with Darren McFadden likely gone next year, they really have no one on offense. Adams would give their quarterback a big, strong, sure handed receiver who can make the tough catches and go over the middle. He is a guy who turns into a quarterback’s best friend, as seen by how much Carr likes throwing to him.
Detroit Lions:
The Lions have long needed a receiver to play opposite Calvin Johnson and take pressure off of him. Nate Burleson is a good receiver, but would be much better suited to play in the slot with two better receivers on the outside. Adams could keep teams honest and not let them triple team Johnson all the time. Adams would give Matthew Stafford another legitimate target to throw too and hopefully keep him from forcing bad passes to Johnson. Adams would bring a tough receiver who will go over the middle and catch almost anything thrown his way. He would be a great addition for the Lions.
New York Jets:
The New York Jets might have the least amount of weapons of any team in the NFL. When Jeremy Kerley is your best weapon then you know things are looking bad. Geno Smith didn’t look great this year, but it’s tough to judge a quarterback when he has no one to get the ball too. The defense was the strength of this team and if they can get a decent offense then they are a potential playoff team. Adams would bring a sure handed safety valve for Smith who can move the chains and keep drives alive. Adams also shows the ability to get deep for the big play, which should keep teams honest when covering him. Adams could be a huge addition for the Jets.
