The Indianapolis Colts do not have a first round pick this year because they used it in a trade for...Trent Richardson.
The Colts first pick is 59th overall in the second round, and they have a league-low five picks. They'll need to hit on almost every player to make this draft worth while.
Major Needs
Center: The Colts need a center more than anyone in the NFL. Colts fans have been known to say that Samson Satele, who was the Colts' center last year is the worst starter in the NFL. Luckily for Indianapolis, this year's draft class has a few top-tier centers.
Wide Receiver: Despite Reggie Wayne coming back and the emergence of T.Y. Hilton, the Colts still need another receiver for Andrew Luck to throw to. This receiving class is among the best we have seen in years, so the Colts should be able to add a good player in this year's draft.
Safety: After losing Antoine Bethea to free agency, the Colts will need a safety to fill the void. LaRon Landry and Corey Lynch will not cut it for a starting tandem.
Day One Targets
The Colts do not have a day one pick.
Day Two Targets
Here is an excerpt from a Colts expert, Tyler Warriner:
"In the second round, some guys I'd target are: safety Terrence Brooks, pass rushers Demarcus Lawrence and Marcus Smith, and cornerback Phillip Gaines. In the third the Colts could target cornerbacks like Stanley Jean-Baptiste or Bashaun Breeland. A nose tackle like Justin Ellis, a safety like Deone Bucannon, or even a guard like Trai Turner."
All of the above would be good additions to the Colts' defense, especially since that's the side of the football that needs the most help. Terrence Brooks would be an excellent addition to any defense, despite his raw abilities. Pairing him next to a hitter like LaRon Landry would give the Colts a good safety tandem.
Stanley Jean-Baptiste and Bashaun Breeland are the newer breed of big corners who can play well in press situations. Paring one of them with Vontae Davis would give the Colts a very long cornerback tandem.
Mid-to-Late Round Targets
C Jonotthan Harrison: Harrison is a bit of a forgotten man in this year's center class, but he was very good at the University of Florida and could be an instant starter for the Colts.
WR Martavis Bryant: Bryant is another size/speed combination in a receiver that teams seem to drool over, but his hands were shaky at the beginning of last season. But, Andrew Luck could use a receiver like Bryant, who has the potential to develop into a star.
WR Kevin Norwood: Norwood was the most reliable receiver on Alabama's roster last season, and that is saying something with Amari Cooper on the other side. Norwood compares to a more athletic Jason Avant and could be a great fit as a slot receiver for Andrew Luck. Norwood knows how to get open on third downs, and has very reliable hands to get the job done.
