2014 NFL Draft: Final Rumors Heading Into Day 1

The weeks leading up to the NFL Draft are a labyrinth of rumours and false reports that suggest 20 players will be selected in the top-10. Basic math means that cannot happen so let’s filter through the trash and see which conversations in the draft world and Twittersphere are credible.

The Browns Don’t Like Manziel Early

In truth,  everybody likes Johnny Football.  He is a tremendous player who brings the game alive.  The Cleveland Browns are in desperate need of a quarterback and,  by holding the fourth overall selection,  they are in perfect position to find the future face of their franchise.  However,  they are unlikely to take Manziel in the top-four and could be either looking to select a different quarterback at four,  trade down or use their second first-round selection to trade back up should the A&M star fall out the top-ten.

The Texans Want to Trade Down For Mack

The Houston Texans will be more than happy to select Jadeveon Clowney first overall but with such a deep draft they would prefer to trade down and accumulate picks.  It is still hard to gauge what kind of premium they could demand on the first selection or how far they could fall and get Mack,  but if the right buyer comes along expect this to happen.

The Bills Want to Trade Up

The Buffalo Bills hold the ninth overall pick and have a lengthy list of needs to fill.  Nevertheless,  rumours are circulating that the Bills want to move up and get their man rather than take the best available at number nine.  Player on their radar could be wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans,  tackle Jake Matthews,  pass rusher Khalil Mack or any of the quarterbacks.

The Falcons are Content at Number Six

Rumours have circulated for months that the Falcons will trade with the Texans and take Clowney with the first-overall selection.  However,  it is unlikely to happen as Thomas Dimitroff and Scott Pioli are very shrewd when it comes to the NFL Draft.  The two former Patriots will hold their nerve and draft with value.
