2014 NFL Draft: Glaring Team Needs Based on First Few Weeks of Preseason

Week two of the preseason just finished up and we have had two full games to look at each team. Each team has had its ups and downs, its big plays and its mistakes and its strengths and its weaknesses seen. While every teams fans will be talking about their strengths, trying to give themselves reason to believe that this season is the one they go all the way, lets take a look at some of the weaknesses teams have shown. Here are seven teams that have shown some obvious weaknesses so far this preseason

Miami Dolphins - Left Tackle

Jonathan Martin is moving to left tackle this year after playing on the right side last year. So far this preseason, he hasn't looked good. He gave up pressure to the Dallas Cowboys defense, which will at times give good tackles fits. However, giving up pressure to the Jacksonville Jaguars pass rush is much more concerning. If Martin can't protect Ryan Tannehill's blind side, the Dolphins decision to select Dion Jordan over Lane Johnson will be even more scrutinized and they will have to take a left tackle next year

Pittsburgh Steelers - Offensive Tackles

The interior of the Steelers line looks to be solid this year with Maurkice Pouncey manning the center position, along with David DeCastro and Ramon Foster playing the guard spots. Second-year man Mike Adams is playing left tackle, while Marcus Gilbert is playing the right tackle spot. The AFC North has a lot of good pass rushers in it and if Adams and Gilbert can't step up and protect Roethlisberger, it will be a long season in Pittsburgh.

San Diego Chargers - Offensive Line

The Chargers missed out on the big three left tackle prospects this year, but they got a pretty good consolation prize in D.J. Fluker. Fluker will come in and give them a nasty run blocking presence at the right tackle position. However, other than Fluker they don't have a lot of talent on their line. The Chargers will need Philip Rivers upright and with plenty of time to throw if they want to have a chance this year

Denver Broncos - Pass Rush

The Broncos tied for first in the league last year with 52 sacks. However, 11 of those were from Elvis Dumervil, who now plays in Baltimore. Another 18.5 of their sacks came from Von Miller, who is still on the team, but is suspended the first six games of the season. Derek Wolfe added another six sacks, but he just had a scary looking neck injury. Initial reports look promising as he made the team flight home. If Wolfe can play and Miller comes back from suspension playing well, then the loss of Dumervil won't be as bad.

Philadelphia Eagles - Run Stopper

The Eagles offense is looking really good this preseason, however the run defense isn't. So far they are giving up a league worst 5.8 yards per carry and 161 yards per game. Their defense is playing pretty well against the pass, but if they can't stop the run it won't matter. Teams will just run the ball down their throats. It will also be hard for that high scoring offense to win games if they can't stop the other team at all.

Carolina Panthers - Second Receiver

The Panthers haven't had a true number two receiver the whole time Cam Newton has been there and he has still put up very good numbers. The Panthers have a very good trio of running backs in DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart and Mike Tolbert. They also drafted speedster Kenjon Barner in this past draft. They have a true No. 1 receiver in Steve Smith and a good pass-catching tight end in Greg Olsen. If they could add a legit weapon at their number two spot, the Panthers would have few flaws on offense.

Cardinals - Left Tackle

The Cardinals made some good moves on the line drafting Jonathan Cooper and signing Eric Winston, but they still don't have a real left tackle. Bobby Massie hasn't shown me he has the ability to play there and Levi Brown has shown me he doesn't have the ability to play there. Carson Palmer isn't mobile and needs good protection. If they can't keep him upright and protected, the Cardinals won't be winning very many games.
