The Houston Texans have been on the clocked in what seems like week 3 of the NFL season. That is
when they began their 14 game losing streak. So out went Gary Kubiak and in steps Bill O’Brien to take
over this dumpster fire. What was more maddening was this team was many analysts pick to go to the
Super Bowl after going 12-4 just a season ago. No one could foresee what this season would become.
Offensively they need a quarterback and offensive tackle, with quarterback being the biggest need. Matt
Schaub showed this season that he wasn’t the answer at the position, neither was T.J. Yates or Case
Keenum. Keenum was a great story but you aren’t winning in the NFL with him. With that said, who do
they look at with the first overall pick?
Teddy Bridgewater has been the number one overall pick in most mock drafts and even every
conversation since the season began. With Bill O’Brien, it should be Bridgewater but who else could be
on their radar? Blake Bortles has been picking up steam as the college football season leading his UCF
Black Knights to a Fiesta Bowl victory over Baylor. Derek Carr is my top rated senior quarterback but I
think the name Carr will make people cringe in Houston.
First Round Quarterbacks: Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville), Blake Bortles (Central Florida), Johnny Manziel
(Texas A&M), and Derek Carr (Fresno State)
Defensively the Texans tried the Ed Reed experiment to no avail. This should be their top defensive need
despite whatever defensive scheme O’Brien decides to run. Reed didn’t last long in Houston when he
was actually on the field. The Texans will be looking for someone to line up across rookie safety D.J.
Swearinger.
Early Round Safetys: Hasean Clinton-Dix (Alabama), Dion Bailey (Southern Cal), Terrance Brooks (Florida
State), and Calvin Pryor (Louisville).
Team Needs: QB, OT, FS, WR, CB, OLB, OG
