2014 NFL Draft: Michael Campanaro Scouting Report

Playing at Wake Forest University, Michael Campanaro never really had an opportunity to showcase his talent. Campanaro never had more than 833 receiving yards. He never had more than six receiving touchdowns in a season. But his average college career doesn't mean he won't be a good player in the NFL. With offenses adapting to faster offenses, Campanaro is coming into the league at the perfect time.

Strengths

Smart: Campanaro finds the soft spots in the defense, and that is something that is really important in today's NFL. Wes Welker has made a career out of getting open, and that is something Camapanaro excels in.

Decent power: At his size, it's pretty interesting to see that he could put defenders down with a stiff arm. He may be small, but he is pretty strong for a guy his height.

Hands: Campanaro has good hands, and he has the makings of a sceruity blanket for a quarterback at the next level. Campanaro could be a really good slot receiver with his hands.

Weaknesses

Health: Campanaro suffered a broken collarbone that ultimately kept him out for three games at the end of the 2013 season. It is hard to project Campanaro's NFL ability if he was injured in his senior year.

Will not separate from NFL cornerbacks: If NFL cornerbacks press Campanaro at the line of scrimmage, he will have trouble getting open. This is because of his size and his small arms.

Body-catcher: Often at times, Campanaro lets the ball bounce into his chest. Many receivers come into the NFL with this problem, and Campanaro will need to correct it soon.

NFL Comparison: Cole Beasley, Dallas Cowboys: Like Campanaro, Beasley is small and quick. He finds soft spots in the defense, and he is one of the best receivers in the league at catching the football. Beasley is also one of the best third-down receivers in the entire NFL.

Draft Outlook

It will be interesting to see where Campanaro will get drafted because he could get drafted in any round past round five. Right now, I have Campanaro going in the fifth round. But because of his size, he may go in the sixth or even the seventh round.

Best Fits

I look at a team like the Carolina Panthers who could be a logical fit for Campanaro. The Panthers play an open offense, and it is no secret that they are in the market for receivers. Campanaro would be a good secruity blanket for Cam Newton.

Other possible fits include the Washington Redskins, Detroit Lions, and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
