2014 NFL Draft: Review of Week 2 Top Matchups

Reviewing my article highlighting this past weekend’s matchups needs to first look at the play of Taylor Lewan. This is a highly athletic and powerful offensive tackle. He easily handled a talented Notre Dame defensive line that includes Stephon Tuitt and Prince Shembo.

Before his decision to return to Michigan, I had Lewan ranked as my top 2013 offensive tackle ahead of both Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel. This performance only helps solidify his spot in the upcoming draft.

Another winner from this past weekend is Western Kentucky’s Antonio Andrews who managed to gain 111 rushing yards despite a ton of inconsistency from his team’s passing game. Andrews ended the game averaging 8.5 yards per carry. It wasn’t a good overall day for Western Kentucky, but Andrews was the lone bright spot.

Miami’s win against Florida was a big step forward for this program. However, Stephen Morris still hasn’t found a way to stand out. He did what his team needed to pull out the win, but he was erratic at times and continues to force balls into coverage.

Jadeveon Clowney had another rough week as South Carolina was upset by the Georgia Bulldogs. The extra blockers being thrown his way are making it difficult for him to make an impact. Clowney is still generating pressure, but he has yet to have a breakout performance.

David Fales’ lack of arm strength was on display this weekend against Stanford. He struggled to stretch the field with most of his success coming on wide-receiver screens and crossing routes. I love Fales’ makeup and decision making, but he’s going to have a tough time getting teams to overlook his arm issues.
