Another team that will be changing their head coach will be the Tennessee Titans. Out goes Mike Munchak and in comes Ken Whisenhunt. Coach Whisenhunt is the all-time wins leader for the Arizona Cardinals and even led them to a Super Bowl with Kurt Warner late in his career. The big question is what will Whisenhunt do in the upcoming draft? Is quarterback a viable option?
Jake Locker has made tremendous strides since being drafted with the eighth pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. However, he is constantly fighting the injury bug. He is also coming into the last year of his four year/$12.5 million deal which means he could possibly walk after the season. Should the Titans go with a contingency plan by drafting a quarterback early? Or do they go another route?
The most likely position of need to address in the first round would be the wide receiver position. There are three receivers that are expecting to test free agency with Kenny Britt, Marc Mariani and Damian Williams. Obviously the big name out there is Sammy Watkins but there is a huge possibility that they will not even get the chance to explore this option without trading up to the six to ten range. The other position on offense could be offensive tackle with Michael Otto possible leaving via free agency as well.
First Round Wide Receivers: Sammy Watkins (Clemson), Kelvin Benjamin (Florida State), Mike Evans (Texas A&M) and Marqise Lee (USC).
Defensively the Titans could be looking at corner or safety with their first pick. Luckily they won’t be looking for defensive line early in this draft with a thin class at that position. Alterraun Verner could be on his way out with his first crack at free agency and a big contract. Whisenhunt could be looking at Darqueze Dennard from Michigan State to fill that spot early. There are only a couple of guys in their range they could select unless they trade to the middle to later part of the first round.
First Round Cornerbacks: Darqueze Dennard (Michigan State) and Justin Gilbert (Oklahoma State)
Team Needs: QB, CB, OT, WR, DE, TE
