After the first week of the college football season there were several changes to my big board. The first week is important because it gives us a chance to see who put in work over the offseason. However, we also need to make sure we don’t overact to just one game.
The biggest mover in my rankings is Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. I had him ranked as the top quarterback prospect heading into the season, but felt he had several areas that needed improvement.
Bridgewater obviously used his time this offseason wisely as he took steps forward in a few key areas. Last year, he had a tendency to be too methodical with his decision making which resulted him holding the ball too long. Against Ohio, Bridgewater make quick and correct decisions with the ball. This and consistently stepping into his throws were two things I wanted to see him fix.
Virginia Tech’s Kyle Fuller also made a statement in the first game of the season. He played a physical and aggressive brand of football against Alabama’s talented receiving corps. Fuller not only displayed fluid hips but also excellent ball skills.
I’m still not sold on Clemson’s Tajh Boyd as a top-flight quarterback prospect. It’s his inability to consistently make quick and proper decisions with the football. Boyd continues to force the ball into coverage, struggle with is accuracy and fail to remain poised in the face of pressure.
