This week’s Big Board update features several significant changes. The board has now been extended to include my top 100 prospects, as well as some prospects moving up and down the board. Texas A&M’s Jonny Manziel had the biggest gain from last week.

Manziel continues to show why he’s the most explosive player in college football. His improvement as a passer is something I immediately noticed. He’s more committed to squaring his body towards his target, goes through his progressions and has developed better touch on his deep ball.

The more I watch Manziel the more I start to think he’s just a guy who enjoys life. While he has shown his immaturity, Manziel also appears to love the game of football—especially in pressure situations.

Another quarterback, Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, has also moved up my rankings. It looks as though he has added weight to his frame which is important because of his tendency to make plays with his feet. However, he has also shown better balance in the pocket and a more accurate deep ball.

The biggest drop in my rankings belongs to Oregon’s Colt Lyerla who is not only dealing with a lack of production but also questions about his commitment. He missed this past weekend’s game because of an illness, but head coach Mark Helfrich raised questions when he stated Lyerla missed the game because of “circumstances”.

Lyerla remains on the radar because of his excellent athleticism and versatility. However, he has competition at the tight end position especially from Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro and Washington’s Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
