The 2013 NFL season ended with a Super Bowl blowout of the Denver Broncos by the Seattle Seahawks, and the 2014 offseason is officially underway. The next big scheduled event is the Scouting Combine coming up later this month in Indianapolis. Until then, there’s still a lot of projection involved with mock drafts, but the draft order is set and it’s always fun to take a look at how things might go in this year’s selection process. Here’s a look at one possible outcome.
Round One
1. Houston Texans: Teddy Bridgewater, Quarterback, Louisville - The Texans get their quarterback of the future in the accurate and steady Bridgewater.
2. St Louis Rams: Jake Matthews, Offensive Tackle, Texas A&M - Matthews is a franchise left tackle and give Sam Bradford some protection.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jadeveon Clowney, Defensive End, South Carolina - Clowney is a once in a generation talent and could dominate for years.
4. Cleveland Browns: Blake Bortles, Quarterback, Central Florida - The Browns get a new signal caller with a high ceiling that could end their quarterback woes.
5. Oakland Raiders: Derek Carr, Quarterback, Fresno State - The big-armed Carr could wind up as the best quarterback in this class.
6. Atlanta Falcons: Greg Robinson, Offensive Tackle, Auburn - Matt Ryan gets a new, talented tackle to protect his blind side.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Khalil Mack, Linebacker, Buffalo - Mack combines with Lavonte David to give the Buccaneers a formidable linebackers unit.
8. Minnesota Vikings: CJ Mosley, Linebacker, Alabama - The Vikings get faster and more talented with the well-rounded and athletic Mosley.
9. Buffalo Bills: Eric Ebron, Tight End, North Carolina - The Bills offense gets a dynamic tight end that can stretch the field.
10. Detroit Lions: Sammy Watkins: Wide Receiver, Clemson - Pairing Watkins with Calvin Johnson doesn’t seem fair.
11. Tennessee Titans: Anthony Barr, Linebacker, UCLA - Barr is raw, but immensely talented and could be a dominating player.
12. New York Giants: Zach Martin, Offensive Tackle, Notre Dame - The Giants need to give Eli Manning more time to throw, and Martin should help.
13. St Louis Rams: HaHa Clinton-Dix, Safety, Alabama - Clinton-Dix is another athlete out of Alabama and helps a young, but exciting Rams secondary.
14. Chicago Bears: Darqueze Dennard, Cornerback, Michigan State - Dennard is a physical cornerback who steps right into the Chicago secondary.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Louis Nix, Defensive Tackle, Notre Dame - The Steelers will fall in love with having the big-bodied Nix manning the middle of the defense.
16. Baltimore Ravens: Jace Amaro, Tight End, Texas Tech - Amaro is a matchup problem that Joe Flacco will take full advantage of down the seams.
17. Dallas Cowboys: Kony Ealy, Defensive End, Missouri - Ealy is a steal at this point. He does everything well, and will thrive in Dallas.
18. New York Jets: Davante Adams, Wide Receiver, Fresno State - Adams is as exciting a receiver as any in this draft class, and makes highlight reel catches look easy.
19. Miami Dolphins: Taylor Lewan, Offensive Tackle, Michigan - Lewan is a steady blocker with a nasty streak, and will start right away.
20. Arizona Cardinals: Dee Ford, Linebacker, Clemson - Lightning quick off the line, Ford will get a chance to make a very good Cardinals defense even better.
21. Green Bay Packers: Calvin Pryor, Safety, Louisville - The Packers need help in the secondary and Pryor will step into the mix immediately.
22. Philadelphia Eagles: Jason Verrett, Cornerback, Texas Christian - The Eagles secondary needs an influx of talent, and Verrett will provide it. He plays bigger than he is.
23. Kansas City Chiefs: Mike Evans, Wide Receiver, Texas A&M - Evans has been Johnny Manziel’s go-to receiver, and will bring his size and athleticism to Kansas City
24. Cincinnati Bengals: Justin Gilbert, Cornerback, Oklahoma State - The Bengals secondary is aging and add the speedy Gilbert, who can also return punts.
25. San Diego Chargers: Kyle Fuller, Cornerback, Virginia Tech - Fuller is as steady as they come, and is an upgrade to a woeful-at-times San Diego secondary.
26. Cleveland Browns: Marquis Lee, Wide Receiver, USC - Lee has become underrated by some, but he’s amazing with the ball in his hands.
27. New Orleans Saints: Jeremiah Attaochu, Linebacker, Georgia Tech - The Saints defense gets better with the addition of the athletic freak Attaochu.
28. Carolina Panthers: Kelvin Benjamin, Wide Receiver, Florida State - Benjamin gives Cam Newton a huge target in the redzone.
29. New England Patriots: Bradley Roby, Cornerback, Ohio State - Roby needs some refinement, but he’s fast and has great ball skills.
30. San Francisco 49ers: Odell Beckham Jr, Wide Receiver, LSU - Beckham give the 49ers a speedster to line up along with an already solid receivers corps.
31. Denver Broncos: Deone Bucannon, Safety, Washington State - Bucannon is big, fast, and hits like a truck, something Denver’s defense sorely needs.
