2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Daryl Williams

Name: Daryl Williams

College: Oklahoma

Class: Redshirt Senior

Position: OT

Height: 6'6"

Weight: 330

Background/Character
Leadership: 9 Experience: 9 Off-the-Field: 10
Mental Capacity: 9 Mental Toughness: 9 Durability: 9

Daryl Williams has experience as a left and right tackle. He has no recorded incidents as far as off-the-field incidents or run-ins with coaches. He is a smart player that has only missed three games in his career to a minor injury. He’s clearly an on-field leader for the team.

Final Grade: 9.16

Athleticism
Balance: 8 C.O.D: 8 Explosiveness: 8
Flexibility: 8 Coordination: 8 Body Type: 10

Considering his massive frame, he moves rather well. Usually a player with his weight would be limited in schemes, but Williams can get to the second level well and react to counter moves effectively. Really moves defenders off the ball as a run defender, which is a compliment to his size and speed combination.

Final Grade: 8.33

Blocking - Upper Body
Hand Strength: 9 Hand Exchange: 7 Initial Punch: 8
Extension: 9 Engaging: 8 Intensity: 9

Being so large, Williams naturally has great length. He uses it very well, extending his arms out to deliver a solid jolt to pass rushers. He neutralizes edge defenders well because of his strength and ability to re-direct. His hand technique and ability to work speed rushers can improve.

Final Grade: 8.33

Blocking - Lower Body
Anchor: 9 Leg Drive: 8 Lateral Quicks: 7
Upfield Control: 6 In Space: 6 Foot Quickness: 6

Williams does well to keep his legs driving downfield when run blocking. He is able to do significant work against defenders lined up directly over him. His size is a hindrance as far quickness and speed, which should be expected. He swallows power rushers with his excellent anchor ability.

Final Grade: 7

Blocking Technique
Football IQ: 8 Hand Placement: 8 Kick Slide: 8
Power Rush: 8 Speed Rush: 7 Body Tech: 7

Williams grades out as an above average technician right now, but he will need to improve his consistency when handling speed rushers. His kick slide is good but can be robotic and leaves him open for counters. He rarely saw good speed to power rushers, which could also take advantage of his mammoth frame and balance.

Final Grade: 7.66

Player Comparison: Cordy Glenn
Projected Draft Position: 3rd Round
Best Scheme Fit: Power
Injury History: Sprained MCL in knee in 2013
Career Accolades: First-Team Big 12 in 2014
Career Stats: 37 career starts

Final Analysis

It’s not natural for guys with Williams’ size to be good athletes that can win in space. Normally a 6’6”, 330-pound frame will really inhibit an athlete’s ability to move and neutralize anything but power rushers, but Williams has good overall fluidity in his movements.

Where Williams wins is as a power blocker that can crack down on run plays and move to the next level. He’s also a good pass blocker. With his strength and overall length, he has potential to be a solid starting right or left tackle in the league.

The most impressive part of Williams’ game is his ability to punch a pass rusher off their initial move and set his anchor to prevent a counter move. He never faced an elite speed pass rusher, but he played very well against the power rushers he played routinely.

Final Grade: 7.85 - 3rd Round Value
