The first contest between the two rivals proved to be quite one-sided. The Seattle Seahawks were dominant, holding the San Francisco 49ers to just three points in San Francisco. The Hawks followed that up with a dominant win on the road in Philadelphia. Bottom line: the Seahawks have done nothing but dominate.
Here are my five keys to a Seahawks victory against the 49ers.
1. Kill the 49ers Already Stagnant Offense
It’s no secret that the 49ers offense has struggled all season. After losing to the Raiders last week, it seems as though the Niners have hit a new low. With the way the Legion of Boom is playing right now, San Francisco is going to need a miracle to fix their offensive struggles heading into Seattle this week. The Hawks can pound the nail in the coffin that is the 49ers season by not allowing more than three points again. Heck, why not go for the shut out?
2. Control the Clock
As I said last week, if the Seahawks can control the clock, they’ll control the game. They did just that against that fast-paced Philadelphia offense, only allowing Philly to have the ball for just 18:04. Seattle’s offense held the ball for 41:56. The defense is playing at such a high level that the offense had been sort of lost in the dust. Russell Wilson and the offense showed that they’re on the rise last week and if they can keep climbing, San Francisco’s defense will be in for a long day.
3. Block for Russell
No doubt the offensive line have had their struggles all season and allowed four sacks two weeks ago in San Francisco. They’re going to have to tighten up and pick up blocking assignments much quicker to help Russell get the ball to the receivers in the weak 49ers secondary.
4. Get the Beast Going
One thing that was missing last week was Beast Mode. Only 188 yards of the 440 were rushing yards and Marshawn Lynch only had 86 yards on 23 attempts and no touchdowns. Lynch had 104 on 20 carries in San Francisco. Unleashing the Beast is usually best done at home, so feed him.
5. Get Six instead of Three
Steven Hauschka has been extremely clutch this season, scoring 116 points this season. Hasuchka scored 13 of the 19 total points against the 49ers in week 13. I’m not knocking Hau$ch-Money but Seattle needs to get their red zone struggles together if they’re going to go on the road to make a playoff run. Sounds simple enough, but scoring more points might come in handy against teams like Green Bay who do nothing but score, so if Seattle can fix the whole “no touchdowns in the red zone” thing, that’d be great.
Seattle dominates San Francisco again to go 10-4 on the season.
