After his MVP Award-winning season in 2011, many like to say that Green Bay Packers’ quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, had a down year in 2013. I don’t know about you, but nearly 4,300 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, only eight interceptions, a 67.2 percent completion percentage and a 108.0 passer rating seem like pretty great numbers to me. 2012 was actually Rodgers’ second best season, and he finished just behind Drew Brees as the second-best fantasy quarterback last season. Let’s take a look at Rodgers’ value and impact moving forward.
2012 Stats | Pass Yds | TD's | INT's | QB Rank | PPG |
| 4,295 | 39 | 8 | 2nd | 21.48 |
2013 Outlook
Rodgers has consistently been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL since taking over the starting job for the Packers in 2008, despite playing behind lackluster offensive lines and with no running game to fall back on. Now that Rodgers will have a retooled (and hopefully better) offensive line in front of him, as well as two highly-talented rookie running backs, look for a return to 2011 form. Also, don’t forget that Rodgers still has Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Jermichael Finley as targets, possibly one of the best pass-catching groups in the league. It’s very likely Rodgers will finish the season as the top fantasy quarterback.
Dynasty Outlook
Yes Rodgers will be 30 by year’s end, but that shouldn’t scare you away. He’s only been starting for five seasons, and still has a ton of mileage left on the tires. You can easily depend on Rodgers to be the starter in Green Bay until he’s AT LEAST 37, if not older. In his five full seasons as the starter, Rodgers has only missed one game due to injury and is incredibly dependable. The Packers have also always had great depth across the board, and have been very adept at developing young and relatively unknown skills players. Rodgers will continually have dependable and talented targets to throw to, even when the current crop of stars have likely moved on.
2013 Stat Projections: 4,700 passing yards, 44 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 250 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
