AFC Championship Game: Joe Flacco vs Tom Brady

This Sunday in Foxboro we will have the rematch from week three AFC showdown between the Ravens and the Patriots.  More importantly we will have Tom Brady versus Joe Flacco round six.  Including the playoffs these two quarterbacks have faced off five times with Brady coming out on top three times.  In such games Brady averages 255.6 yards and has thrown five touchdowns and seven interceptions with a completion percentage of 63.1 percent.  Flacco actually performs better in these games averaging 254.2 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions and 68.8 completion percentage.

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Last week against the Denver Broncos, Flacco was able to do what nobody thought he could.  He defeated Peyton Manning on the road.  He was 18-of-34 for 331 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.  He did have a low completion percentage; however he got the one stat that quarterbacks are held accountable for, wins.

Flacco was able to perform at a high level when his team needed him the most.  That is the sign of a true leader. He ended the first half with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith with 36 seconds before halftime then a 70 yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones with 31 seconds left in the game to send it to overtime.  The big play ability of Flacco sets him apart from most quarterbacks.

Regular Season Average:  20/33, 238 yards, 1.4 Touchdowns, 0.6 Interceptions

Regular Season Average Away:  18/31, 181 yards, 0.9 Touchdowns, 0.6 Interception

Statistical Prediction:  19/32, 200 yards, one touchdown and one interception

Tom Brady, New England Patriots

There is no better postseason quarterback than Brady and he has all the stats to back it up.  He has three Super Bowl Rings, five AFC Championship rings and 17 playoff victories (most in NFL history).  Last week against the Houston Texans he composed a stat line of 25-for-40 passes for 344 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.   Losing his favorite target Rob Gronkowski shouldn’t slow Brady down either as we saw last week.  Brady’s ability to make adjustments and pre-snap reads will be the difference in this game. The question is can Ray Lewis keep up?

Regular Season Average: 25/40,301 yards, 2.1 Touchdowns, 0.5 Interceptions

Regular Season Home Average:  25/41, 299 yards, two touchdowns, 0.4 Interceptions

Statistical Prediction: 25/40, 300 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions
