Alshon Jeffery's Calf Not a Long-Term Injury

Panic rattled Chicago after the preseason opener when reporters shared that star receiver Alshon Jeffery was in a walking boot and on crutches after the game. Jeffery was set to be the Chicago Bears top receiver this year with many expecting even better numbers than the 85 receptions for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Kevin White was still not practicing; losing Jeffery for an extended period of time would just be a nightmare for the Bears.

Fortunately, Chicago doesn't believe the injury will keep Jeffery out for an extended period time. Which goes along with Adam Schefter's report last night, indicating Jeffery would miss just one week. It is the preseason so the Bears are likely just being very cautious with their 25-year-old star, putting him on crutches to protect the foot and holding him out for the next week.

Of course, a skeptic could argue that all reports seemed to indicate White would be fine, and then the Bears just announced today he will start the season on the PUP list with a stress fracture in his shin. But right now, as long as Jeffery doesn't suffer any set backs, Jeffery could return in the near future. As long as he is healthy, Jeffery will be heavily targeted this season by Jay Cutler and well on his way to a monster season.

Fantasy Spin:

Jeffery is receiving plenty of love in fantasy drafts, currently sitting 23rd overall in average draft position (ADP). If Jeffery isn't in any danger of missing regular season games, he should remain a top-25 pick, while you could also make an argument for him even being a top-20 pick. If the injury worsens or there is a set back that would cost him games in the regular season, we'll update you on the story and include where his ADP should be after.
