Alvin Dupree was a three-year starter for Kentucky, producing at a respectable level at two different positions. Going back to high school, Dupree has been a team players, willing to play any position asked of him.

Final Grade: 9.33

Athleticism
Balance: 8 C.O.D: 9 Explosiveness: 8
Flexibility: 7 Coordination: 9 Body Type: 9

Dupree is a good athlete with a great, NFL-ready frame. At 6’4” and 260 pounds, Dupree can line up in a variety of roles and not be hindered by size. He has good length paired with very good quickness and speed. Dupree does lack natural bend in his hips, which is very concerning for an edge rusher.

Final Grade: 8.33

Overall
Football IQ: 9 Tackling: 8 Motor: 9
Read/React: 10 Play Strength: 9 Consistency: 8

One of the most impressive areas of Dupree’s game is his ability to read plays as they happen. He plays the read option extremely well, and also recognizes pass/run blocking quickly after the snap. Works hard to stay relevant as the weak side defender. Would like to see more consistency in his burst off the line and use of speed. Right now, it’s very hit or miss.

Final Grade: 8.83

Run Defense
Range: 9 Pursuit: 7 Body Positioning: 9
In Traffic: 8 Block Shedding: 8 Hole Filling: 8

Whether standing up or with his hand in the dirt, Dupree is a solid run defender. He doesn't chase down ball carriers well due to the lack of elite speed, but as the strong side defender, he is very strong at the point of attack. His ability to set the edge and string plays out to the sideline is valuable for any defense.

Final Grade: 8.16

Pass Defense
Man Pickup: 7 Zone Drops: 8 Ball Tracking: 7
Hand Usage: 7 Blitzing: 8 Rush Moves: 8

Dupree isn’t a refined pass rusher yet, but he might not ever become a primary rusher without a bendy body. He sets up blockers well to one side, and then counters by cutting outside or in, depending on his primary sell. His power and hand strength flash well, which is partially why he’s more of a run blocker than pass rusher. Dupree is a capable defender in space, including when he drops back into zone.

Final Grade: 7.5

Player Comparison: Jabaal Sheard
Projected Draft Position: 1st-2nd Round
Best Scheme Fit: 4-3 SAM or 3-4 LOLB
Injury History: Torn ligaments in left hand in 2012
Career Accolades: All-SEC, All-American in 2013, 2014
Career Stats: 247 tackles, 24 sacks

Final Analysis

Alvin “Bud” Dupree came from one of the smaller SEC programs with impressive production and disruption ability. He’s not a dominant pass rusher right now, as he doesn't beat opposing tackles with elite traits.

His quickness off the snap and speed as an upright, 3-4 rusher is above average, but not good enough to be his primary rush technique. Dupree best projects to an outside linebacker role where he can drop back into coverage at times, rush the passer, and also be the primary run stuffer on the edge. He’s got the length and talent to be a quality 4-3 strong side linebacker.

If he’s asked to be the top pass rusher on the team, it is unlikely he will be a foundational piece to build around, as he does not turn up field effectively in a fluid motion.

Final Grade: 8.20 - 2nd round value
