Assessing Aaron Lynch's 2014 NFL Draft Value

Aaron Lynch’s draft value is a difficult one to assess, this is because after transferring and taking a year off, he became a different player. In 2011, while still at Notre Dame, Lynch was a dominant player who was a difference maker. In 2013 he’s hardly a dominant player or difference maker. In fact Lynch has become, in my eyes, a very pedestrian player.

Lynch uses his speed to out maneuver offensive tackles but without him playing aggressive like he did in 2011 it’s not bringing in great results. He also seems to be the first player to quit on almost every play. If the play is going away from Lynch he quits, he isn’t the guy to chase down a play from the backside.

Lynch could put on some weight and play defensive end in a 3-4. This could be his best fit as he can handle double teams and it frees up others to make plays. In the NFL he is more likely to play outside linebacker and come in on third downs to rush the passer. Where Lynch goes is anyone’s guess as a team is looking for the 2011 Lynch and not the 2013 one.

If he can measure well at the combine I can see him landing on a team like the Jets or Steelers to help with the pass rush. Talent trumps all in the NFL and Lynch has a ton, as of now I could see him being a mid day-two pick.
