The Chicago Bears will not place the franchise tag on wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, meaning that he will hit free agency next month.
It's not necessarily a surprising decision considering Jeffery was suspended four games last season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He's also two years removed from being a 1,000-yard receiver in the league.
With that said, Jeffery will surely be an attractive option in free agency. According to most, he will end up being the No. 1 receiver on the market. Here's a guy that's gained 4,000-plus yards with 23 touchdowns over the past four seasons. He's Los just 27 years old.
From a fantasy perspective, change of scenery could do Jeffery well. Chicago's quarterback situation was a complete and utter disaster last season with the likes of Jay Cutler, Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley sharing time.
Among the teams that will likely have interest in Jeffery, the Tennessee Titans (Marcus Mariota) and Philadelphia Eagles (Carson Wentz) have stable quarterback situations. Look for the San Francisco 49ers to also show interest in the former second-round pick.
