The early weeks of the NFL season are filled with a crazy amount of waiver activity. Injuries, under-the-radar studs and poor performances can all lead to a number of otherwise valueless players suddenly becoming the hottest commodity. Given that we’re only approaching Week 3, most of these names are going to sound like no-brainers, so don’t get too upset at the obvious nature of this post - not everyone has time to stay on top of these things.
Knile Davis - Running Back, Kansas City Chiefs
Did you miss out on snagging Jamaal Charles in the 1st round? Well here’s your lucky day to make up for it! Charles was forced from Sunday’s matchup with a high ankle sprain, and he’s definitely going to miss more time moving forward. Davis stepped in and performed like a true RB1, amassing 103 total yards and two touchdowns. Until further notice, Davis is a must-start as the top ‘back in KC’s run-first offense.
Kirk Cousins - Quarterback, Washington Redskins
This one is about as easy as it gets. If you needed any help upgrading your quarterback position, or were an unlucky RG3 owner (why did you draft him in the first place?), Cousins is the man to save your team. Arguably a more complete and skilled quarterback than Robert Griffin III, Cousins put up big numbers in a blowout against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With a dislocated ankle, Griffin III is going to likely miss significant time, so it would behoove you to grab Cousins now, because he won't be available by Wednesday.
Donald Brown - Running Back, San Diego Chargers
Brown was a top-25 ‘back last season, despite being part of a platoon in Indianapolis for the Colts. The Chargers starting running back, Ryan Mathews is currently battling an injured knee, and could see a reduce role or even miss some time. If you’re a Mathews owner or just in need of some solid running back depth, Brown is a great add and a solid RB2 option while he splits time with Danny Woodhead.
Bobby Rainey - Running Back, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Doug Martin is dealing with another injury, this time to his knee, which leaves Rainey to pick up the slack for the Bucs, much like last season. Rainey went off for 144 rushing yards against the St. Louis Rams, proving he can carry the load in Tampa while the Muscle Hamster recuperates. The Buccaneers play on short rest this week, meaning Martin will almost certainly be inactive. Even if you aren’t a Martin owner, you could probably use a solid addition like Rainey while he’s getting RB1 production.
