Buffalo Bills
Marcell Dareus in trouble again
Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus is in trouble with the law again. Dareus was reportedly involved in a traffic accident Friday in Hamburg, N.Y.
The Buffalo News reported that Dareus was arrested on three misdemeanor and four vehicle and traffic charges, stemming from a car race. According to the report, Dareus left the scene of a property damage accident.
Dareus is no stranger to run-ins with the law, as he is currently facing charges in Alabama, where he was arrested in May for possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson on field together
Bills running backs Spiller and Jackson are used to sharing carries, but they aren’t accustomed sharing the field. However, the Bills ran a few plays in practice last week that involved both players.
Spiller has been a passing threat in years past, but struggled last year to catches passes out of the backfield. However, the thought process most likely will put Spiller in slot and Jackson in the backfield.
Jackson seems to welcome Spiller splitting carries, but who knows what he'd think about playing together.
New England Patriots
Jimmy Garoppolo signed
The Patriots signed Garoppolo, their second-round pick, to a four-year deal on Monday. That makes three quarterbacks entering Patriots camp: Tom Brady, Ryan Mallett and Garoppolo.
Brady and Garoppolo are signed until 2017, but Mallet’s contract is up in 2014, leading to speculation that he may look for a new team or be traded in the near future.
The Patriots only have one rookie, Dominique Easley, that is unsigned.
Patriots bring in Jermichael Finley
The Patriots brought in former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley for a visit. Finley is looking for potential teams as an unrestricted free agent in the last year of a two-year, $14 million contract.
Finley’s future in the NFL was put in jeopardy on Oct. 20, when he bruised his spinal cord in a game against the Cleveland Browns. He lost movement and feeling for a period of time, but had his vertebrae fused together a month later.
Finley’s doctor has cleared him to play, but when he visited the Packers, the team’s doctors did not put him through all of the proper tests. ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that the Patriots brought him in exclusively for medical evaluation.
New York Jets
Calvin Pryor signs with the Jets
The Jets made it clear they were trying to revamp their defense when they drafted former Louisville safety Calvin Pryor in the first round. However, drafting a player and signing him are two different processes.
The Jets found that out the hard way last year, when top pick Dee Milliner held out in training due to his contract negotiations. This year, the team avoiding that fiasco by signing Pryor to a four-year, $8.56 million deal.
Miami Dolphins
Mike Wallace shining at practice
Wallace was up and down for the Dolphins last season, catching 73 passes for 930 yards and five touchdowns. The team needed more consistency out of the receiver they signed to fill the No. 1 slot.
Wallace caught three touchdown passes in Monday’s practice, showing signs that he could be in store for a breakout season. He caught a deep pass from Ryan Tannehill, one over the middle and one in the corner of the endzone.
If Wallace can be this versatile for the Dolphins this season, he may be able to fill the No. 1-receiver role nicely.
