Broncos Could be Leaning Towards Trevor Siemian

It sure looks like the Denver Broncos are going to go with Trevor Siemian as their starting quarterback. Following a horrendous two-turnover performance against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, Mark Sanchez will again take a back seat to his younger counterpart when Denver takes on the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.

This is a significant simply due to the fact that this week's preseason game is the one that acts as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. It also marks the second consecutive game that Siemian, a second-year undrafted free agent, has started for the Broncos.

Through two preseason games, it's become readily apparent that Sanchez isn't up for the task to start for the defending champs. He has completed 20-of-30 passes. Though, two red-zone fumbles against San Francisco this past week and an interception in the preseason opener has really hurt the veteran.

On the other hand, Siemian actually led Denver to a long touchdown-scoring drive to open the game against San Francisco. Unfortunately, his night came to an end following a pick-six by Eric Reid and two consecutive three-and-outs.

Interestingly enough, it appears that rookie first-round pick Paxton Lynch could very well also be in the mix for the starting gig. He performed well against San Francisco, putting up two second half touchdown-scoring drives. Lynch and Siemian are expected to see more time than Sanchez Saturday against Los Angeles.

If Sanchez were to lose out to Lynch for the No. 2 spot — assuming Siemian wins the starting gig — his spot on the 53-man roster could also be in jeopardy. Sanchez is due $4.5 million this season, all of which the Broncos would get out from under should they release him.

From a fantasy perspective, there's not a whole bunch to see here. None of these quarterbacks are rosterable options in 12-team leagues. Though, depending on who starts, he could be a potential early-season waiver-wire add.
