If that's the case, one has to wonder why the Buffalo Bills released Fred Jackson on Tuesday. Though, there are reports that general manager Doug Whaley "went rogue" with the decision to release the veteran running back.
In any case, the Bills are concerned that the hamstring injury LeSean McCoy suffered in practice last month might keep him out for the Bills season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
"Well we certainly expect him to be ready to go, I hope," the first-year head coach said Monday, via ESPN.com. "If not then the next man has to step up. Boobie [Dixon] got a lot of reps out there today. Bryce Brown got a lot of reps today. So we will see. I am not going to put that all on one man. If he is not ready to go, he won’t be in there."
This could be a big early-season blow for a Bills team that is expected to rely a great deal on the run game. Though, one of the strengths of the squad has to be depth at running back. Even after releasing Jackson, the Bills are in capable hands with McCoy, Anthony Dixon, Bryce Brown and rookie fifth-round pick Karlos Williams.
From a fantasy aspect, this has to be concerning. McCoy is being relied on as a top-12 running back. Losing him for the first week of the season likely won't bode well for your early success. In DFS, McCoy is probably a must avoid at this point.
