The struggling San Francisco 49ers offense will be without one of its best players Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. The team confirmed that second-year running back Carlos Hyde is out with a stress fracture in his left foot. Hyde had previously hinted about the injury prior to last week's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
It remains to be seen how long Hyde — the league's ninth-leading rusher — will be out. However, San Francisco does have a bye Week 10, an indication that he could very well miss the next two games.
After starting the season out strong, Hyde has struggled since suffering the injury. Over the past two games, the talented young running back has put up 31 attempts for just 95 yards.
With Hyde lost for this week's game, it looks like Reggie Bush will start in his stead. Bush, who missed three games and has played in a limited basis in four others, has put up just eight rush attempts on the season. Rookies Jarryd Hayne and Mike Davis will back him up.
Needless to say, the 49ers running back situation isn't one that's going to be fantasy friendly until Hyde returns to 100 percent health. Even then, it's not the ideal scenario due to a substandard offensive line. Bush is a must avoid against a stout Rams defense on Sunday.
On another note, wide receiver Anquan Boldin was said to be a game-time decision earlier on Friday. He himself just indicated that he will be ready to go. Again, not much to see from a fantasy perspective there.
