Carolina Panthers DE Frank Alexander Leaves Game with Ankle Injury

The Carolina Panthers brass have to be concerned after defensive end Frank Alexander went down with what appears to be a significant ankle injury in the team's preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.

Competing with Kony Ealy for a starting job opposite Charles Johnson, Alexander had to be carted off the field after the injury. This comes on the heels of what has been an impressive performance from the former fourth-round pick during camp.

If Alexander is out for substantial time, the decision will have been made for Carolina. Ealy, a second-round pick in last year's draft, offers much more upside than his veteran counterpart.

For the Panthers, it's a continuation of what has been a disastrous attempt to replace Greg Hardy as a pass-rush option next to Johnson. Alexander, in his fourth season, was suspended for 14 games last year for violating the league's substance abuse policy (twice).
