What has been a frustrating season for Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett came to an abrupt end on Tuesday when the team placed him on season-ending injured reserve with a rib injury.
Bennett, one of the top tight ends in football last year, suffered the injury back in Week 11 against the Denver Broncos. After missing Week 12, the veteran was back on the field against the San Francisco 49ers this past Sunday.
He reportedly suffered a setback in that late-game loss.
With 53 receptions for 439 yards in 11 games this season, Bennett's production has fallen off the map. Remember, he led all NFL tight ends with 90 catches a year ago.
Due $5.1 million with a dead cap hit of just $1.1 million next season, there is a decent chance that Bennett has played his final game in a Bears uniform.
From a fantasy perspective, this news means that you should strongly consider picking up Zach Miller on the waiver wire. He's put up 13 receptions and four touchdowns over the past four games and will find himself targeted in a larger capacity with Bennett out for the season.
