C.J. Anderson might not care about your fantasy team, but we sure do. In this, it's becoming pretty obvious that the Denver Broncos running back is trending downwards in the fake football world.
The 2014 breakout performer is averaging less than four fantasy points per game thus far this year, going for a total of 56 yards on 24 rush attempts. Some of this has to do with a toe injury he suffered earlier in the year — an injury Anderson himself says he is over.
Though, a lot of it has to do with just poor overall play from the running back and his offensive line. Anderson is averaging just 0.8 yards per rush after contact. For comparison's sake, teammate Ronnie Hillman, who has been much more impressive than his counterpart, is finding more success breaking tackles.
This has led some close to the situation in Denver to indicate that the two will continue to split carries:
"They're (Anderson and Hillman) gonna split it (rush attempts). Gary likes 'em both and that's how it's gonna be,"Broncos ESPN insider Jeff Legwold said. "Ronnie has looked the best, but he's not very big, so I think he has a threshold regardless of how great he's doing. C.J. is going to be an early-down guy a lot of the time. But when all is said and done, both are going to get plenty of carries."
That's not a good sign for those of you who selected Anderson early in your drafts during the summer. On average, the Broncos running back went late in the first round in preseason drafts. This means that you have no other choice than to run him out there in year-long leagues.
As it relates to weekly contests on FanDuel and DraftKings, Anderson is nearly a must avoid at this point. He's put up just three more attempts than Hillman through two games — a sign that Denver is already in a running back by committee system.
