Dallas Cowboys rookie second-round pick Randy Gregory played a vital role in the team's win against the New York Giants on Sunday night. Going up against fellow rookie Ereck Flowers, Gregory put consistent pressure on Eli Manning throughout the night. And while the Nebraska standout didn't show up on the stat sheet, his presence was well known.
Unfortunately for both the Cowboys and their young defensive end, Gregory suffered a high-ankle sprain late on Sunday night, and is expected to miss between 4-6 weeks.
The initial worry was that Gregory tore his Achilles, especially after he came up lame while engaging a Giants blocker:
While the prognosis is much better than originally anticipated, Dallas will have to play its next three games without its two most-talented pass rushers. Remember, Greg Hardy is suspended for the first quarter of the season.
After traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles next week, Dallas hosts the Atlanta Falcons to close out the month of September. By then, the hope is that we will have a better feel for Gregory's return date.
