What a dramatic fall from grace for former Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle, who was released by the team on Tuesday.
Randle began the season as the Cowboys starting running back after DeMarco Murray departed for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.
What has followed him since is a laundry list of issues.
From calling out Murray prior to the start of the season to struggling on the football field himself, Randle just didn't show himself to be worthy of being relied on in Dallas.
Add in the strange situation last week that saw Randle go AWOL from practice, and the writing seemed to be on the wall here.
That situation included Randle calling police due to some concern about where his girlfriend was located. Remember, Randle was involved in a domestic situation earlier in the year — something that led him to have to meet with the league office in New York City. A suspension could be in the cards there.
Following Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had some interesting comments regarding the team's now former running back:
"I'm always concerned as to any issues regarding the [mental] health of a player," Jones said, via ESPN. "It's a lot more serious than the football [injury]."
More so than losing his starting job to Darren McFadden, Randle's mental health has to be in question here. He may no longer be on the Cowboys, but the hope here is that the team does what it can to help him through these difficult times.
However, Randle's football career appears to be over for now. He's going to have to get his house in order off the field before any team considers touching him. That's the harsh reality of the situation.
As it relates to the Cowboys current running back situation, they seem to be in fine hands with McFadden. The former top-five pick has put up 275 yards in the two games since taking over the team's primary ball carrier duties.
