Darrelle Revis Ruled Out vs Pittsburgh Steelers: Fantasy Impact

John Clayton over at ESPN reported earlier Friday that Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis will not suit up for the New York Jets on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is a huge blow for a Jets’ team riding high after a week one blowout of the Buffalo Bills.

This is also a major reason why fantasy owners need to keep tabs on the news around the National Football League towards the end of the work week. The fantasy impact is huge here.

New York will now have to line up Antonio Cromartie opposite Mike Wallace and insert Kyle Wilson into the left corner position to take on Antonio Brown. Equally important, but less reported, is the fact that Ellis Lankster will now get play as the Jets’ nickel guy. Lankster, mostly a special teams guy in three NFL seasons, has made a total of six tackles in 18 career games. He will most likely be tasked with stopping a combination of Emmanuel Sanders, Jerricho Cotchery and Brown in the slot.

Pittsburgh likes to change up their formations in the passing game. This means that you could see any one of the Jets’ top three corners on Brown or Wallace at any given time. Mismatches galore here.

Start both of the Steelers’ starting receivers and be happy with the decision. Any time a defense loses a player of Revis’ caliber, you expect opposing offenses to pick on that area of the field. You can bet Todd Haley and Co. will do just that.
